Billy Brumfield Shelter

The Billy Brumfield Shelter serves as an emergency shelter for up to 50 men per night. The shelter provides three services: it serves as an emergency shelter for homeless men, as an alcohol and drug rehabilitation program, and it provides room and board for disabled men while helping them find permanent housing. The shelter provides bus passes, a light breakfast, shower facilities, a bed and an evening meal daily. A transitional work program is in place to assist the men in saving money to move into an independent living situation.

Facts

  • Over 700 men a year find shelter at the Billy Brumfield House.
  • The Billy Brumfield House was named for a homeless man who died of hypothermia while sleeping in his car.

Volunteering

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Provide a light breakfast for 45 men
  • Host Bingo Night
  • House-sit at the shelter while residents go to an AA meeting
