Madison County Stewpot

Madison County Stewpot provides a nutritious lunch to many elderly, disabled, homeless and other low-income persons in and around the Canton area. The meals are available at the Madison County Stewpot community kitchen, located in the St. Paul AME Zion Church, or through a volunteer meals-on-wheels program. The first meal of this program was served on Monday, February 4, 2002.

By providing a free meal to low-income persons, their limited or fixed-income financial resources are then available for spending on other necessities, such as prescription drugs, medical care or utilities. As a result, these persons will not have to choose between spending money on lunch every day and, for example, paying for medicine or an electric bill.

Facts

  • This program provides meals, free of charge, five days a week in a safe, wholesome and supportive environment.
  • In its first week of serving meals, Madison County Stewpot averaged almost 200 persons a day who received a hot, nutritious meal.
