Madison
County Stewpot provides a nutritious lunch to many elderly, disabled,
homeless and other low-income persons in and around the Canton
area. The meals are available at the Madison County Stewpot community
kitchen, located in the St. Paul AME Zion Church, or through a
volunteer meals-on-wheels program. The first meal of this program
was served on Monday, February 4, 2002.
By
providing a free meal to low-income persons, their limited or
fixed-income financial resources are then available for spending
on other necessities, such as prescription drugs, medical care
or utilities. As a result, these persons will not have to choose
between spending money on lunch every day and, for example, paying
for medicine or an electric bill.
Facts
- This
program provides meals, free of charge, five days a week in
a safe, wholesome and supportive environment.
- In
its first week of serving meals, Madison County Stewpot averaged
almost 200 persons a day who received a hot, nutritious meal.
